Trial Preparation

Trial Preparation & Hearing Preparation

Some people who represent themselves are comfortable speaking in the courtroom and in front of a judge, but are less sure of how to prepare documents and evidence for their trial or hearing. At Montana Legal Advisors, we are here to help those representing themselves in court prepare their case so that they can achieve the best outcome possible under the law following their trial or hearing.

Get Legal Assistance Without Hiring a Full-Time Lawyer

Whether you are going through a divorce, modifying a parenting plan, or grappling with another family law issue, you may not wish to hire a full-representation attorney to assist you. You may be looking for a more cost-effective way to resolve your case or you may simply want to retain more control of your case, but whatever the reason, we support your right to represent yourself.

However, we also understand that those representing themselves in court may still need legal support and limited help from a family lawyer. For this reason, we offer flat-rate and standalone legal services that can help you prepare for your trial or hearing:

  • General information consultations.
  • Preparation of subpoenas.
  • Written discovery.
  • Depositions.
  • Legal research.
  • Coaching.
  • Preparation of Proposed Findings of Fact.
  • Preparation of Conclusions of Law.
  • Preparation of Orders.

We may help some clients with a single one-hour consultation in which they can get guidance and information pertinent to their trial. We may help other clients with extensive document preparation, information gathering, and research. No matter how much or how little trial preparation help you choose, we will treat your case with thoughtfulness and care.

Many of our clients are extremely comfortable with representing themselves when it comes to preparing documents, doing their legal research, and understanding Montana law. However, some are less confident about the trials and hearings, where they will need to appear before a judge and argue their case.

At Montana Legal Advisors, we offer trial and hearing assistance to those who wish to handle the bulk of their family law case, but who need limited help with their actual court appearance. Even if you do not wish to enlist the help of a full representation attorney, you may wish to have an attorney with you for specific parts of your trial or for trial preparations. Our flat-rate and hourly-rate legal services allow our clients to pay only for the trial and hearing help that they need and choose.

We offer assistance with family law hearings regarding:

  • Divorce.
  • Child support and parenting plans.
  • Spousal support (alimony).
  • Division of property.
  • Guardianships.

Limited Scope Representation Trial Assistance

It can be intimidating to walk into a courtroom when you are representing yourself. We are here to help you feel more comfortable going into the courtroom, whether it is to help you understand how the trial process works or whether it is to physically represent you during hearings. Specifically, we can:

  • Answer your questions about trials and your case during a general consultation.
  • Provide legal coaching for your day in court.
  • Conduct your legal research, so you know what the law is and how to refer to it.
  • Prepare you for court hearings, from how to act to what to wear.
  • Represent you at an order of protection hearing.
  • Assist with specific portions of your trial.
  • Consult with you regarding possible documents to use as exhibits at a hearing.

With limited scope representation, you can choose just one small task or service, or several larger services, depending on your needs and your budget. Requesting a bundle of legal services can further increase cost effectiveness.
